What is a good Publishing Co & Lit Agent For First Time Authors?

In the US, or Canada ? Looking for a reputable, long standing, many yrs as a publishing CO . Not interested in AuthorHouse, or Self-Publishing, or EBooks. This is strictly for first time authors finding an experienced, honest Publishing Firm and Lit Agent. Please provide names, physical addresses and phone numbers for such sources, not only a webiste. Not interested in scams, so please do not post that. If you don’t know about the company or Agent yourselves, then do not post it. If you do know good pub firms and agents yourself, then please post it:) Mature replies please.
I will be researching & Investigating such sources through the BBB, Consumer Affairs, and other areas to make sure this firm & Agent is legit and operating in a legal manner. No Scams, or you will be reported.

    Do your own research!

There are thousands of legit publishers and agents, and it depends on your genre, anyway

Unfortunately, you did not mention anything about the type of writing that you are looking to have represented. Different agencies and publishing houses specialize in different genres of writing. You should look for people that represent similar books to what you have written– this way, they will know how to best market it!

I would suggest starting with the latest copies of Writer’s Market and the Guide to Literary Agents. I know that my public library has copies of them as well, if you are not interested in purchasing them.
has a searchable database of the listings found in their books, as well as an online store where you can take a look at all their different options.
is a great way to do your research as well, as it is a quick reference to avoid scams of any sort that a writer might encounter.

    Happy writing!
