I have this friend, and we both write books that we want to publish; but he says that the book publishing industry has no future, that it’s slowly dying out. He told me that the only future I had in publishing my books is to publish them online only, because soon no one is going to be buying actual books, and ebooks on the internet will be the only way to read. I obviously don’t agree with him, I believe that there will always be books, because they contain something special that computers just don’t have. Which one of us is right? When submitting a book to a publisher, what stops the publisher from publishing the book under the name of one of their directors and effectively “stealing” your work? I know there is probably some copyright law, but how is it enforced?

I am in the process of writing a juvenile fiction book. I would like to find a publisher, but really do not know where to start. There are so many websites and places on the internet, it is hard to know what are legitimate and what are not. I would like to find a publisher that I can be in regular contact with and not just communicating through impersonal emails.

I have written a book, I classify it as romance. I’ve spoken with one of my favorite author’s of similar books, but her answers to my questions were somewhat generalized as she said her agent and attorney’s required them to be.
What I need to know is do I send a full copy of the manuscript to each publisher I’m interested in? Or would I send a selection? Do I need to have the work copywritten before shopping it to make sure it’s not given to another author to claim as their own?
Mainly I want to know the best way to get the book out there, into the hands of possibly interested publishers.
