Portable DVD player, ebook reader, laptop: Multiple devices or just one?

My daughter will need a laptop computer next fall for college. She’d like it now, but she needs it then. She’d also like a portable DVD Player and/or an ebook reader now.

Her birthday is tomorrow. I could get her a portable DVD player, or an ebook reader, but is that a waste of money since a laptop can play DVDs & display ebooks? Is there a legitimate reason to have multiple devices?

I’ve written a book and I was thinking of publishing it as an ebook. I Am looking for some feedback from people who have published ebooks (is it easy? How many people download your ebook? Would you do it again?)

Can someone please tell me which software would be best and easy to use for making eBook for GCE A Level ICT ?

I have:
1. Microsoft Office Publisher 2007
2. Microsoft Office Sharepoint Web Designer 2007
3. Microsoft Expression Web 2
4. Adobe Dreamweaver CS4

Or please inform if there is any other software which is recommended

the book was wrote 15 years ago and is onto paper. I am going to use my OCL to scan each page and upload to microsoft word. So I need a good program that will work with the ocr…any other help offered is welcome as to how to publish etc.
yes I wrote the book so there is no worry about prison etc. what I am looking for is a good program to download so I can upload my paper book into ebook. My plans is to see if a publisher is interested. I wasn’t given the opportunity before since it’s 800+ pages, so I had to xerox all the pages X3 so I could mail the manuscript to the publishers which was very costly in postage and then there was the wait. Ebooks make things so much easier. So I will turn my paper book into a ebook and need to download that program “a ebook maker”

I have written a long manuscript.Considering if I should publish that as an ebook. Coz it’s easy to distribute and generally ebooks have higher margins.But, I’m a bit concerned if people really like reading ebooks on computer screen…

What do you say? What do you buy online? ebooks or real books? Do you like reading ebooks or find them extremely tiring?

Would really love the opportunity to get rid of a lot of physical books that I never seem to get around to reading. I know that at the moment that the choice of ebooks isn’t that great, but it would still be a good time to get started.

What would be the more logical; an eBook or a regular paper book?

I’m writing a novel, and am going to be publishing it within the next year or so. But what I’m hoping someone can tell me is, what would be the more sensible; eBook, or normal paper novel? I realize it would be a lot more economically sound to go with an eBook, but as far as personal gain goes, which would most likely garner the most attention? Exactly how many people out there read eBooks? That very concept is something that’s still relatively new to me. I’m not really much of a computer-person, so I found out just not long ago about this eBook idea. But can anyone maybe help me? Which would be the more plausible choice? I’m on my way to publish a book…not large, with a content of 60 pages. Thinking if I should publish that as an ebook. Coz its easy to make and distribute. But a bit concerned if people like reading ebooks.

What do you say? Do you read ebooks? How large ones? Do you find them comfortable to read? I am not speaking about Kindle/e-reader variety but the PDF ones that you read on PC’s.

Publishing children’s books?

I have written several children’s books throughout the years. I never tried to publish them because of lack of self confidence. Well, I was laid off about three weeks ago and it seems like it’s now time to start. Plus, I have another dream I need to help fund. I have been up and down with the “Writers Market” and frankly it’s too much information. A complete concise book on all the steps would be great. From format, query letter, submission, to acceptance and contractual agreements. I am not interested in ebooks or self publishing ,as I can’t afford that. So what are my alternatives? Is there a publishing house that’s more likely to accept them or do you think selling them in magazines such as Highlights would be a good idea? I have a book called “Formatting your Manuscript” but it’s not very helpful for childrens writing. Thanks everyone.
